 Exodus 29:44 -- Exodus 32:26

A PLACE OF PRAYER

Exodus 30:1

"And thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon: of shittim wood shalt thou make it."

Why did God command the Israelites to use wood from the shittim wood tree to be used  in the making of the wilderness tabernacle and its furniture? What was there about that wood that it is mentioned so often in our Bible?

This hard, closed grained wood, from acacia tree, was common in the Arabian desert. It was of orange-brown color. Even today, wood from the Acacia tree is used in furniture and hardwood floors. There is a site on the computer where one can buy shittim wood from an Israelis tree for one’s own personal craftsmanship.

Some of the pictures of the wood show that there are thorns and waffles on the branches. All of those imperfections would have to be removed before the wood could be used to make anything--especially the altar of incense. Then, and only then, would gold be molded upon it.

That altar of incense was the place of prayer for the high priest. It was a holy place of communion with God.

Oh, that we Christians could be like shittim wood. Oh, that we could be hard-core and steadfast in our convictions so that our lives would be used for God’s service as a foundation for truth and righteousness. Oh, that our whole person would be a place of prayer in the service of God’s work here on earth! (ysw)

"OVERWHELMED"

"When my heart is overwhelmed, attend unto my cry.
Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I!"
ow often are the cares and affairs of this life overwhelming,
Causing us to become spiritual cowards!
But praise God, there is a place to run that is HIGHER than any care.
And to Him, we cry out in need. Many times each day. we must run unto that Rock for shelter and strength.
He must take us there.
Yes, lead us there to that High Tower and our Rock! (GGS)

(Psalm 61:1-20)

And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.  And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son.  (Genesis 18:10)
