My Daily Blessing from My Daily Bible Reading

with meditations by my mother, Poetess Gertrude Sanborn

Genesis 45:2 -- Genesis 47:24

A BROTHER’S LOSS BRINGS GRIEF

GENESIS 45:14

"And he fell upon his brother Benjamin’s neck, and wept. . ."

Joseph was overwhelmed with sorrow and joy! These must have been his feelings when he saw his youngest brother,

Benjamin. They had the same mother. They were from the same womb. But years of separation were between them. They were strangers.

Benjamin had thought Joseph was dead. Joseph had heard not one word from Benjamin or any of his family since he was seventeen years old. Now Joseph was thirty and a ruler in Egypt. What a change from that dirty teen-age youth, that had been pulled from the mud pit.

I remember when I saw my younger sister, Beverly, after many months of absence. We were adults. She was moved to see me--and I her. She did not want to let me go! Beverly was brain-damaged from birth. I was not sure she really cared about me. In truth, I was all she had left of our family. And she for me. Our parents and other sister had long-died. We were from the same womb. As I read of Joseph and his meeting with Benjamin that long-ago day in Egypt, I thought about Beverly. I reflected on Joseph’s mixed emotions as he hugged Benjamin to his heart. There is a bond between siblings which cannot be explained. (ysw)

"WATER BY THE WAY OF EDOM"

(II Kings 3:8-2)

God can send help from unlikely sources!

We are to expect help, and make ready for the blessing!

He will send water from a desert, if necessary.

The way He answers our prayers is often a mystery.

The thousands and thousands of prayers that ascend

Have as many kinds of answers, as the prayers that are prayed. (GGS)

And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.  And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son.  (Genesis 18:10)
