Leviticus 13:8 -- Leviticus 14:33
PRIESTS AS MEDICAL EXPERTS
Leviticus 13:13
"Then the priest shall consider and, behold. . . . all
his flesh. . .he shall pronounce him clean that hath the
plague. . . ."
I marvel at the
job description for the Old Testament priests, don’t
you? Not only were they the spiritual leaders of the
Israelite camp, but also, they were skilled warriors in
confrontation and battle.
Remember when the Levites (that’s
Aaron’s tribe) felled three thousand men after the
sordid worship of the golden calf in Exodus 32:28?
Here we see that the priest had to be familiar with
diseases such as the dreaded leprosy. The priests were
somewhat like doctors in their day. All the leprosy
symptoms were given in today’s reading.
The diagnosis was put in the hands
of the priests. What an awesome responsibility! It
is no different, in some aspects, today. We look to our
spiritual leaders for counsel and advice--even diagnosis
of our health concerns.
Sad to say, many in church
leadership let us down. It was no different in
Aaron’s day than today. (ysw)
"SERVE THE LORD IN FEAR"
(Psalm 2:11)
"Rejoice with
Trembling!" What a great and
majestic God is our Lord God Almighty. We should have
all our service unto Him with reverence. Even our praise
should be with thanksgiving and honor and awe. When we consider
Whom we serve, we are humbled that He accepts our
service so small, so frail, and so faulty. (GGS)

And
Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he
said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly
return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo,
Sarah thy wife shall have a son. (Genesis 18:10)
