Exodus 32:32-33
". .
.if not, blot me. . .out of thy book which thou has
written. And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever
hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book."
Under Aaron’s leadership, the children of Israel
committed a terrible sin. They were a "chosen
people"--the ones promised to Abraham many years ago.
Foolish, compromising Aaron made a golden calf, like the
kind that was worshiped in Egypt. It all happened while
Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving the Law of God.
Now, Moses had advanced warning of the idolatry and
immoral behavior. JEHOVAH knew what was going on in the
camp. The LORD informed the leader that His people had
turned away quickly from the pure worship of the true
God. It was sickenly true.
What would the LORD do? He, in His righteous fury, would
kill every last one of them! He already had the Levites
slay three thousand men--not including the women and
children. Imagine the frightful sight at the ashes of
that golden idol.
The LORD said He would begin a new nation whose
descendants would be from Moses. Moses was horrified.
What would Egypt think? He pleaded with JEHOVAH! Yes,
the people had sinned! It was then that Moses implored,
"‘Blot out my name from thy BOOK instead of the people,
O LORD." I feel that the BOOK spoken of here was the
BOOK spoken of in the Revelation of Jesus Christ
(Revelation 20:12, 15; 22:19).
It was given to the Apostle John on Patmos Island. I
personally feel that somewhere in God’s care, there is a
"BOOK" filled with the names of everyone who has ever,
or will ever live. The Apostle Paul wrote of those whose
names were written the "BOOK OF LIFE." And near those
names, and the others who are there, are written all the
"works"--good or bad--that they did while alive. (Even
in that book are included the natural or unnatural
aborted babies as well as all the still-born children of
the world.)
The psalmist has written: "Thou tellest my wanderings. .
.are they not in THY BOOK?" (Psalm 56:8) and ". . .and
in THY BOOK all my members are written. . ." (Psalm
139:16). I believe the BOOK referred to here and in
other passages is the BOOK mentioned in the New
Testament Scripture as THE BOOK OF LIFE! (Revelation
3:5, 4:3, 13:8, 17:8)
It seems to me that these verses teach that everyone’s
name is written in The BOOK OF LIFE--Christ died for all
(Philippians 4:3). Those who reject his free salvation,
already paid for at Calvary, will have his or her name
blotted out of THE BOOK. It will be as if the person
never had his or he name written there at all. WHAT DO
YOU THINK? (ysw)
